Recently I spent close to $4,000 to have one of my cars repaired. I had several problems that needed repair one was an engine check light. I knew the problem wasn’t something that would cause the engine serious damage. The car has 246,000 miles and I would like to get another 150,000 out of it. I had to get a rental car to go to work which is a 45 mile commute each way. This of course is an added cost on top of the repairs.
I picked up my car from the repair shop and on the way home the engine check light came on.
A little thought entered my mind that said “you should be very upset about this after all you spent almost $4,000 getting it repaired and now it’s doing the same thing”. The next thought I had was “Satan I’m not selling my joy and peace for such a cheap price. This is just about a car repair nothing more”.
I calmly called the repair shop and even made a few jokes with the person I spoke too on the phone. I took the car to the shop to have the problem analyzed. I will need to take it back next week so they can fix the problem.
It felt really good to hang onto my joy and peace. There was a time in my life when I would not have responded this way. I would have been very frustrated and somewhat angry about the situation. I am grateful my peace and joy isn’t sold cheaply anymore!!!
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
I have a question. What is the price you sell your joy and peace for? Are you selling the peace of Christ to the lowest bidder?
